Where will you post?

Use a handful of tags that describe the post. Instagram itself recommends relevant tags over volume.

Questions

Good to know.

How many hashtags should I use?

Fewer than you think. A handful of specific, relevant tags beats a wall of thirty. As a starting point: about 5 on Instagram, 3 to 5 on TikTok, 3 on LinkedIn, 1 or 2 on X and Facebook, and a single topic tag on Threads. Then compare reach in your own insights.

What is the difference between broad, niche and local tags?

Broad tags (like #SmallBusiness) have huge volume, so posts disappear fast. Niche tags (like #KitchenRemodel) are followed by the people most likely to care. Local tags (like #PasadenaContractor) reach people nearby, which matters most for service businesses.

Are the flagged hashtags actually banned?

Not necessarily. Platforms do not publish banned lists. We flag three kinds: engagement bait such as #follow4follow, tags that have appeared on widely shared Instagram restricted lists, and tags so broad they rarely help. Before using any tag, search it in the app: if recent posts are hidden or a notice appears, skip it.

Why use capital letters in hashtags?

Writing #PasadenaDentist instead of #pasadenadentist makes tags easier to read and lets screen readers pronounce each word. Hashtags are not case sensitive, so it reaches the same posts. You can switch Readable caps off if you prefer.

Where do the suggestions come from?

An open source AI model (Llama on Cloudflare Workers AI) suggests them from your topic, niche and location. If it is unavailable, our built in niche library fills in. They are suggestions, not a guarantee of reach, so always check that a tag's posts match your business.
